43 inch TV dimensions

The 43 inch is the size that fits where the popular ones do not: a narrow alcove, a compact media unit, a recess beside a chimney breast. The question it answers is how much television a small space can take.

Which width do you mean?

Quoted widths for a 43 inch come in three kinds. The picture is 95.2 cm, which the 109.2 cm diagonal and the 16:9 shape fix for every true 43 inch set. The whole set with its bezels is about 96.4 cm, the number for a recess or a gap between two cupboards. The feet are about 62.7 cm apart, which sets the narrowest surface that will carry the set.

Some makers name panels by size class, so a 43 inch can come out a few millimetres under 43 on the diagonal. If a spec sheet differs from this page by a centimetre or so, the spec sheet is right for that model.

With the stand and without it

Standing on its feet, a 43 inch TV reaches about 60.3 cm: 55.3 cm of set on about 5 cm of foot, or 23.8 in in all. The feet ask for a surface about 25 cm deep. On a unit 50 cm tall that puts the middle of the picture about 83 cm above the floor, low enough that nobody is looking up at it. Wall mounted, the feet go and the bracket takes their place.

The picture is 53.5 cm tall, under a third of the figure’s height, and 95.2 cm across. On an open wall it looks small, and in a recess it looks as if the space was cut for it.

The 42 inch is 2% narrower than the 43 and has 5% less picture, and it is mostly sold as an OLED. The 48 inch is 12% wider with 25% more picture. That is the step worth weighing, and it is the one that starts to rule spaces out.

Compare any two screens

The 55 inch is the obvious step up: 26.6 cm wider, 14.9 cm taller, 27.9% more on the diagonal and 63.6% more picture, so twelve inches add almost two thirds to the picture.

Will it fit?

The body is about 96.4 cm, which clears every standard space in the table: a 140 cm × 90 cm alcove at 69% of its width, a 160 cm × 100 cm wall at 60% and a compact 120 cm wide unit at 80%, with 11.8 cm showing on each side. If the room has a recess, a chimney breast or a sideboard and not an open wall, this is usually where the answer lands.

A 100 cm gap works only just: it leaves under 2 cm each side, which is enough on paper and not enough to lift the set in without scraping. Allow a few centimetres more if you can.

Sit 1.6 m to 1.9 m from a 43 inch TV for everyday viewing and 1.3 m to 1.6 m for films, which fills 28° to 34° and 34° to 40° of your view. That is a bedroom, a small sitting room or a study. From a sofa 2.4 m away the picture spans only about 22°, where the calculator looks for 28° to 34°, which is why a 55 inch suits that room better.

Is 4K worth it on a 43 inch?

A 4K panel at 43 inches has 102 pixels per inch, against 51 for 1080p. By the 20/20 convention of 60 pixels per degree, single pixels stop showing from about 0.9 m at 4K and from 1.7 m at 1080p. The seat for this size is 1.6 m to 1.9 m away, so a 1080p picture is right at the limit and 4K is past it. In a bedroom, where the seat is a little further back, 1080p is already clean.

The convention is a rough one. A 2025 paper in Nature Communications found a mean of about 94 pixels per degree for fine black and white detail, so the 4K advantage is a small one at this size.

Hanging it on the wall

A bracket fits the pattern of threaded holes on the back of the set, which follows the VESA mounting standard, is quoted in millimetres and differs between models. Read it from the manual before you buy a bracket. The bracket has to be rated for the weight of the set and go into studs or masonry. How high to mount a TV answers where to put it.

Who a 43 inch suits

A 43 inch suits a room where the space is the limit: a narrow alcove, a compact unit, a bedroom, a kitchen or a study. From 1.6 m to 1.9 m it fills a comfortable share of the view without dominating the room.
