Nothing you type ever reaches us.

What the site does with what you type

Your desk width, your wall zone, how far back you sit — all of it stays in the page. The calculators keep their state in the address bar, which is what makes a setup shareable, and the drawing is computed on your own device.

• Nothing is sent to us. There is no form, no submission and no endpoint. The site is served as static files.
• One thing is stored on your device. Whether you prefer centimetres or inches, under the key displayscale:unit. It never leaves your browser, and clearing site data removes it.
• A shared link contains what you typed. When you copy a link to a setup, the dimensions travel in the URL. That is how the person opening it sees the same desk — so treat sending one as publishing those numbers.
• Downloading the drawing happens locally. The image is built in your browser and saved by it. Nothing is uploaded.
• No fonts are loaded from third parties — the typefaces are served from this domain, not from a font network. Two scripts load from elsewhere: Cloudflare’s visit counter and Google’s advertising script, both described below.

Analytics

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare, which serves this site, adds a small script to each page as it is delivered. It records that a page was viewed, the page address, the page that linked to it, the type of browser and device, the country the request came from, and how quickly the page loaded. It sets no cookie, stores nothing on your device, and gives us no identifier for you. We see totals: how many visits, which pages, from which countries. We cannot see who you are, or which sizes you looked at, or link one visit to another. Cloudflare’s own privacy policy governs what it does with that data. Beyond that one counter, there is no page-view counter of our own, no session recording, no heatmap and no A/B test.

Advertising, and what Google does

This site is free, and we intend to pay for it with advertising from Google AdSense. Our application to Google is being reviewed. While it is, Google’s advertising script loads on the home page and the TV and monitor size calculators, and their translations, so that Google can review the site, and no advertisement is shown. Loading that script is still a request to Google: its servers see your IP address, the page you are on, and the usual details any web server receives. We set Google’s consent signals to denied before the script loads, and nothing on the site changes them, so there is nothing to agree to yet. Google’s consent message for visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland is switched on the day ads go live.

• If the application is approved, Google and its partners may use cookies, or similar identifiers, to serve and measure ads based on your previous visits to this or other websites.
• That information goes to Google, not to us. We never see it, and we have no way to connect it to anything you did on this site.
• You can turn off personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and read what Google does with the data at How Google uses information from sites that use our services.
• Third-party vendors listed at aboutads.info/choices can also be opted out of individually, and, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu.

Blocking cookies, or using an ad blocker, does not break anything here. Every calculator works exactly the same way with the advertising blocked, because none of the arithmetic depends on it. This page changes the day ads actually go live, and the date at the top changes with it.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Delivering a web page necessarily involves your browser making a request, and a host handling it — that is true of every website, and it is the only processing that happens on our side of the wire. We do not run a server that reads those requests back; we see the visit counts described above and nothing else.

If you email us

If you write to [email protected], we have your message and the address you sent it from, because that is how email works. We keep it for as long as it takes to deal with, and for up to twelve months afterwards, then delete it. We do not add you to any list.

Children

This site is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, and nothing here asks for an age or a name. South African law treats anyone under 18 as a child; the US COPPA rule, anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email [email protected] and we will delete it.

Who operates this site

This site is operated by Inyonitech Solutions (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa and based in Cape Town. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) it is the responsible party for any personal information this site processes, and under the GDPR and the UK GDPR it is the controller. Its Information Officer is registered with South Africa’s Information Regulator and can be reached at [email protected].

Your rights, and why there is little to exercise them on

Under POPIA, and under UK and EU data protection law, you may ask what personal information a company holds about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to its use. In our case the honest answer to the first question is usually “nothing”: the only thing we can hold is an email you sent us, kept for up to twelve months after we have dealt with it. That makes the rest straightforward. For the advertising data Google holds, Google is the controller and its own policy and controls apply.

You can exercise any of this, or ask a question, via the contact page. You can also complain to South Africa’s Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za). If you are in the UK you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the EU, to your own supervisory authority.
