The one number that decides it
Not the diagonal — the desk. A single monitor of either size fits every desk we measure against, right down to a 100 cm one. A pair does not: two 24 inch panels need about 111 cm side by side, which a standard 120 cm desk takes comfortably, and two 27s need about 125 cm, which it does not. If a dual setup is anywhere in your plans, that 14 cm is the whole decision and the diagonal is a detail.
Bigger is not sharper
This is the part that catches people. Pixel density is pixels divided by inches, so stretching the same 1920 × 1080 grid over a larger panel makes it less sharp: 92 pixels per inch on a 24 inch, 82 on a 27. Text on a 27 inch 1080p panel is visibly softer than on a 24 inch of the same resolution, which is the opposite of what "upgrading" is supposed to feel like.
At 1440p the 27 inch reaches 109 ppi and the argument reverses — that is the combination the size is really for, and it is why our catalog carries a 27 inch at three resolutions and a 24 inch at one.
Who each one suits
The 24 inch is the right answer for a shallow desk, for a dual setup, and for anyone who does not want to think about display scaling — at 1080p it needs none. The 27 inch is the right answer for a single-screen desk with room to sit back, and only worth buying at 1440p or above.

- Is a 27 inch monitor too big for a 100 cm desk?
- No. A 27 inch body is about 61.4 cm wide, so a single one leaves roughly 19 cm either side of a 100 cm desk. Two of them is the problem: a pair needs about 125 cm.
- Is a 27 inch sharper than a 24 inch?
- Only if it has more pixels. At 1080p a 24 inch is 92 ppi and a 27 inch is 82 ppi, so the bigger panel is the softer one. At 1440p the 27 inch is 109 ppi, which is where it pulls ahead.
- Do I need to sit further back from a 27 inch?
- A little. For work the comfortable band is roughly 56 to 78 cm for a 27 inch against 50 to 69 cm for a 24, measured from your eyes to the glass.
